Those of you who have children will know exactly what I mean when I say that some days, I don’t feel like I have the strength to deal with 3 young children who constantly bicker and argue and annoy each other. Some days it’s just non-stop. Not only am I playing referee between them, but then the regular demands of the day add stress and anxiety on top of that. Housework, emails, meetings, commitments to friends, commitments to the church, regular time with God. You know what I’m talking about. Even without children, our days are packed with things that leave us depleted and weak by evening. It’s a wonder how we make it through the days sometimes.
That’s why I find hope in Deuteronomy 33:25. It says, “The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days.” (NIV) The fact is, we grow weary. We cannot do life in our own strength. Oftentimes the Lord will bring us to the point of weakness to teach us not to be self-reliant. It’s on purpose that He brings us to this point. To get us to turn our eyes to Him and say “Ok, Lord, I cannot do this anymore. I need You.” Doesn’t He say He will not share his glory with anyone else? Well, that includes us. (Isaiah 42:8) Whatever the day brings, God has promised to give us enough strength for that day. Just as He gives daily bread, He gives daily strength, specific to our needs. My need is strength to deal with my children. Your need is specific, and God will provide strength for exactly what you are going through. This is a promise, sealed by the holy blood of Christ. So, when we think we cannot go a minute more and have reached our breaking point, let’s catch ahold of the garment and feel His power transfer to us. Just as the woman did in Luke 8:43-44. Just enough for the day.
Prayer: Lord in Heaven, our strength comes from You. This life is impossible to manage without Your grace and strength. Thank You for giving us everything we need to serve Your people and do Your work. In the name of Your Son, Amen.
Action: Remember that He who has helped you in the past, will help you today. He is faithful. Ask Him to help you get through whatever difficulty you are facing. If there’s no difficulty happening in your life right now, pray for someone you know that’s going through a difficult situation. Pray that God would give them strength to make it through this hardship. And when your time comes, remember that Jesus is your strength.
