New Is Here

January 1, 2024

Melissa Valerio

Here we are, 2024! We made it! With the excitement of a new year to look forward to, I wonder what God will do. Where will He move this year? In what areas of my life will I see change? Rarely does anything stay the same when God is at work, so where will the Spirit take me? A new vision, a new path, a new task?

There are so many references to newness in the Bible. Jesus promises to make all things new (Revelation 21:5). God says He is doing a new thing (Isaiah 43:19). The Lord’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We have new life with Jesus (Romans 6:4). We are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). There will be a new Heaven and a new Earth for believers to live in (Revelation 21:1). New can be good. In fact, with God, new is necessary. As much as we like to rely on the comforts of familiarity, I am so thankful that God will not allow us to stay there. January 1st comes whether we like it or not, right? We cannot stop it or slow it down. Similarly, God’s new work in us is imminent. Ready or not, it is coming.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we expect new things this year. New growth with You, new opportunities to share You with others, new relationships that glorify You, new characteristics that exemplify You. Please keep doing Your work in us. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Action: Pick a new life verse to cling to in 2024. Find a promise in the bible that speaks to your spirit. Seal it on your heart and brand it on your mind.
