People Will Never Forget

This week I attended a funeral and one of the things mentioned was a quote by Maya Angelou “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” What a profound statement.
Carol Jean, whom this funeral was for, lived her life making those around her feel loved. How did she do that? By living exactly what Jesus says is the 2nd greatest commandment — love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31). Her love for her immediate family was immovable; her daughters and grandchildren had the most wonderful stories and memories of her. Her love for her extended family was evident; her siblings and nieces couldn’t stop raving about her. Her love for her friends was tangible; they came out with song and prayer to honor her. And her love for strangers was defining, as stories were shared about her serving in local soup kitchens. How in the world could one person embody such love for others? By allowing the Holy Spirit to flow through her onto every single person that was blessed to be in her presence. Hers was a life that abided in Jesus, and the fruit she produced was her legacy (John 15:4). ❤️
Prayer: King Jesus, You are the author of Love. You created it, You give it, and You expect us to give it to others. Thank you for Carol Jean, who You created for Your glory, to be a vessel of Your love unto the world. Her family and friends are direct benefits of Your goodness and I thank You that we all got to experience a piece of You through her. Please keep her family in Your comforting hands. Blanket them with Your love as You carry them through their grief. In Your holy name, Amen.
Action: Think about someone in your life that you haven’t spoken to in a while. Call (or text) them and tell them how much they mean to you. Let’s all make good use of the time we have left.
