Right Hand Strength

“I constantly trust in the Lord; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:7 NET

It’s funny how kids suddenly gain the strength to do just about anything if they’ve got their mom or dad by their side. My 9-year-old son, Ryan, still doesn’t like going in the basement alone, but as long as I’m with him, he isn’t afraid. I think about this verse in the Psalm and can relate because the safety I feel from God is the same safety that Ryan feels from me.

God says that He is at our right hand! A shield of protection that is as close as our own skin. We can have total trust and confidence that God’s mighty hand will protect us and save us in every situation. He doesn’t promise troubles won’t come, but He does promise to be at our side throughout the entire event. There is security and safety in knowing we can go anywhere, do anything, and face any challenge that He calls into our lives. With God beside us, we are immovable, unshakeable, unbreakable, and unstoppable.

When we put God before us, He is our focus and forerunner in our thoughts, words, deeds, and motives. This allows us to give everything else over to Him to deal with. Not only does He go before us, but as Psalm 16:7 points out, He is beside us. He completely covers us when we make Him Lord of our lives.

Prayer: God in Heaven, thank You for walking with us, steadying us, equipping us, and covering us with Your presence. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. With You by our side, we can rest. Thank You for allowing peace and quietness in our spirits. In the holy name of Jesus, Amen.

Action: Read Matthew 19:26. Jesus states that nothing is impossible for God. If you are in a tough situation that looks helpless, stand on this promise. Pray that God would strengthen your trust in Him. Imagine Jesus standing next to you protecting you, shielding you, and working all the details out for your good. You are never alone.
