Safe And Secure

On November 4, 1952, the United States of America established the National Security Agency (NSA). This is where my father worked for most of his adult life. I remember, when I had my learner’s permit and needing some driving hours, I’d drive him to work in the morning and then drive him back in the evening. It was incredible how many fences and guard posts they had. A little over-the-top, I would think. But as I reflect back now, I’m very thankful our government has set up such a fortress. All in the name of security.
According to the NSA’s website, their mission statement reads:  “The National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS) leads the U.S. Government in cryptology that encompasses both foreign signals intelligence (SIGINT) insights and cybersecurity products and services, and enables computer network operations to gain a decisive advantage for the nation and our allies.”  In layman’s terms, they’re here to protect this country from attacks. Their purpose is to intercept foreign communications that may have terrorist motives against the USA. The idea is to keep this country safe and secure. This is not a foreign concept or extravagant idea. The truth is, we all want to feel safe and secure. That’s why we have home security systems and car alarms. We want protection against people who intend to bring us harm. But ultimately, it’s the Lord who protects us. Deuteronomy 33:29 tells us, “Israel, you are blessed! No one else is like you, because you are a people saved by the Lord. He is your shield and helper, your glorious sword. Your enemies will be afraid of you, and you will walk all over their holy places.” (NCV) Protection and security are God’s idea, and God’s work. Belonging to God means He has total and ultimate control over all things. We don’t need to worry or fret. Yes, be diligent and watchful, but our hearts can rest easy in His protective hands.
Prayer: God of the Universe, You have all power and authority over all things. We look to You for our protection. We take refuge in Your righteousness. Display the wonders of Your faithful love to all who call on Your name. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.
Action: Thank God for the NSA and thank God for God! We long to live in peace and harmony. The NSA makes that happen, and God makes that happen. Pray that God would make lesser secure countries, especially those engaged in civil wars, turn to Him and seek Him for protection.
